Giving

For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

- Matthew 6:21

Why we give.

God is generous and so he calls us to be as well.  What we do with what God has given us shows the world where our hearts are at and helps proclaim the gospel. We want to glorify God with every area of our lives, and that includes what we do with our finances.

What we believe about tithing.

"A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees,
belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD." Leviticus 27:30

What is a tithe?

The word 'tithe' simply means 'one-tenth' and is applied to any monetary increase that comes into our lives. This means that when we choose to tithe, we return 10% of our income back to the Lord, trusting Him with everything that remains.

Where does tithing come from?

The tithe was implied with offerings given to God by Cain and Abel (Genesis 4).
It was revealed to us through Abraham before the law was established (Genesis 14:20).
It was established through Moses as a command from God in the law (Leviticus 27:30).
It was confirmed by Jesus in the New Testament (Matthew 23:23).

God commanded us to tithe.

"One-tenth of the produce of the land, whether grain from the fields or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD and must be set apart to him as holy." Leviticus 27:30 NLT

Jesus confirms to us that we should tithe.

"You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things." Matthew 23:23 NLT

Tithing should be our first and best.

"Honor the LORD with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase" Proverbs 3:9 NKJV

The tithe tells us the amount we are to give (10%), and the first-fruits tells us the nature of the gift (first and best).

Tithing reminds me that everything I have came from God.

"But you shall remember the LORD your God, for it is He who is giving you power to make wealth" Deuteronomy 8:18 NASB

When we refuse to tithe, we are stealing from God.

“…’will a man rob God? Yet you are robbing me!’ But, you say, ‘How have we robbed You?’ In tithes and offerings…Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse...’” Malachi 3:8-10 NASB
